The Year 2000 Problem: Solutions in Latvia

Among Latvian specialists, information about the upcoming unpleasantness in the area of computer use resounded very extensively during a conference on information technologies that was held in 1997. Those companies in Latvia that are the largest and the most far-sighted have been dealing with the problem for at least a year, but it was only at the beginning of January that the mission came under the attention of state and local government workers. It's high time, too -- 1999 has brought information with it, and in some foreign banks there has already been an avalanche of mistakes raised by the inability of computers and software to read the date "99" properly.
